Top up your tan in Tenerife

The largest island in the Canaries, Tenerife is one of the most striking places you can visit in Europe. As well as having a legendary nightlife and luxury all-inclusive resorts, there’s plenty off-the-beaten-track gems to discover for adventurous travellers.

Best beaches: Playa de las Americas is one of the most famous beaches in Spain. It’s very family-friendly and is usually a little quieter during winter. For something really unique, try Playa Jardin. Here, palm trees and cacti are the backdrop for dramatic black volcanic sands.

Sky high views: With incredible scenery and ancient archaeological sites, Unesco World Heritage site Parque Nacional del Teide is a must. There are countless hiking trails, but if you don’t fancy trekking to the top of the formidable El Teide, you can take a cable car.

Los Angeles lounging

Known throughout the world as the home of the rich and famous, Los Angeles has everything you could wish for in a winter break. From high-end shopping on Rodeo Drive to phenomenal restaurants to amazing vistas from the Hollywood Hills, LA should be on everyone’s bucket list.

Long live Lanzarote

Lanzarote has a long history, which has seen the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and, of course, the Spanish lay claim to the island. It’s full of stunning natural beauty, with otherworldly landscapes forged by volcanic eruptions, dramatic cliffs and deep blue seas.

Best beaches: Caletón Blanco is made up of a series of coves and rock pools, making it feel like you have your own private beach for the day. Pink cliffs encircle the gorgeous Famara beach. As well as its beauty, the area is famous for watersports and even hang-gliding.

Time for wine: Lanzarote’s vineyards are one-of-a-kind. The vines dug into the dark ground and protected by semi-circular walls, making them instantly recognisable. Go to the island’s oldest bodega, El Grifo, and enjoy an afternoon tasting the native Malvasía wines.

Making memories in Miami

Miami has a tropical vibe all year around, making it the perfect place to soak up the sun this winter. This east coast city has a diverse population and a party spirit that brings the streets to life. From colourful street art to sizzling seafood dishes, Miami is a treat for the senses.

Best beaches: For the classic Miami experience, you can’t beat Lummus Park Beach. Colourful and always buzzing, this is the spot for people-watching. For a more chill day, go to Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and picnic in the shadow of the beach’s historic lighthouse.

Taste of Cuba: Little Havana is one of the most vibrant places in the Magic City. It’s a bustling neighbourhood full of Cuban charm. Sip on one of the best mojitos in the city at Ball & Chain and grab a delicious Cuban burger in El Rey de Las Fritas.
