Flying to the USA this winter? Follow these steps for your trip through the airport

Monday 8th November marks the reopening of US borders to passengers from Ireland after 19 months of restrictions. Just like travel within the EU, flying from Ireland to the USA now requires some extra preparation. Follow our step-by-step guide below to make sure you’re ready for your next trip.

1. Check the travel requirements

Use our free Know Before You Go travel tool to see the latest travel requirements for your US destination. Travel and visa requirements are subject to change at any time. Before you travel, it is your responsibility to check the latest requirements.

Don’t forget to check the requirements for both journeys if you’re making a return trip. If you’re on a connecting flight, don’t forget to check the entry requirements for your transfer through Ireland, as well as your destination.

2. Use VeriFLY to get pre-approved for travel

The VeriFLY app will approve your travel documents, giving you confidence that you meet the latest travel requirements. Simply upload your travel documents within 72 hours of your trip. After a speedy approval you will be able to check in online within 24 hours of your transatlantic flight.

If you’re a transfer customer, you’ll also need to complete the requirements for Ireland as well as your destination country. For example, if you’re flying from Rome via Dublin to New York, you’ll need to complete a VeriFLY pass for Ireland and the United States.

 

3. Check in online

Once you’ve checked the latest travel requirements and completed VeriFLY you’re ready to check in online. Check in at aerlingus.com or via our app. You can do this within 24 hours of a transatlantic flights. Don’t forget to download your boarding pass(es) to your phone.

4. Complete a US Contact Tracing form

All passengers travelling to the USA must complete an online US Contact Tracing form before arriving at the departure airport.  Your US Contact Tracing completion email will be checked before you board the aircraft. See US Contact Tracing form.

Important reminders for your next USA trip

  • Make sure your passport is in date and you have a valid ESTA
  • Bring original copies of your travel documents to the airport just in case you are asked to present them
  • Face masks continue to be mandatory at the airport and on all aircraft
  • Arrive nice and early to allow extra time to move through the airport
